Day 9 - Akaroa (for Christchurch)

Sunday December 23rd 2012

I can't believe it is day 9 of this cruise so just 5 more days until we jump off in Auckland! Not sure how we will cope with packing every 1-2 days. One of the bonuses of cruising is that you unpack once and are delivered to your destinations painlessly.

What we also can't quite believe, is that tomorrow is Christmas Eve. Although the ship is decorated, the staff all wearing Santa Hats & carols played regularly, the usual (when at home) last minute shopping, cooking, cleaning etc is missing. We are certainly not complaining as it is very stress free. The only decisions will be what to choose from the menu. Of course we will miss getting together with family, especially the grandchildren, however we saw them just before we left.

I just hope Santa can find us on Christmas morning!

This morning we dropped anchor in Akaroa Harbour. We watched as they lowered the ships tender boats into the water and prepared them to transport approx 3,000 passengers and crew ashore. Those with booked tours are first, so we will wait until later for our turn. I was hoping to have mobile service here as we are close to shore, but no joy so will wait until we arrive in Akaroa to upload to my blog.

After a nice relaxing breakfast (fresh fruit & an omelet) in the International Dining Room, we are back in our stateroom packing up our cameras, jackets etc for our trip to Akaroa. Now just waiting for the announcement that we can head down to Deck 4 & board the tender boats.

I have added some photos of our location, Akaroa Harbour & the lowering of the tender boats. There are seals on those rocks .... No wine involved this time!
