Continuation of previous post!
We really enjoyed Wellington as the weather improved just after we arrived so was a comfortable 23C & sunny. The usual cold winds were nowhere to be seen. Even the locals commented on how nice it was.
We had a cider and lunch at a nice little outdoor cafe in the main shopping area. Then we went looking for a bottle shop to top up our wine supplies. We found one right near the shuttle bus terminal which was selling NZ wines we buy at home for $15 for $40/bottle! The sign outside read "Welcome Diamond Princess Passengers". Did they think we were that silly? Well we walked to a little supermarket about 2 blocks away and purchased 2 bottles of decent NZ Sauvignon Blanc for $12each and a 1.5litre bottle of cider for $14. So was worth the walk. No problem getting it back on the ship either. It went through the x-ray system but they said nothing, so is now cooling in our refrigerator ready for consumption later.
We then headed back to the shuttle bus which delivered us back to the ship around 3pm. Time to download some photos, recharge the cameras, have a wee nap & make a couple of phone calls before we sail.
I will attach a few more photos of Wellington & upload this shortly. The Christmas tree is in a park in central Wellington. The ship is The Cost Romantica, sister ship of the now grounded/capsized Costa Concordia. It is an Italian ship which arrived just after us this morning. We were watching from our balcony & a little nervous it was going to hit us as it came very close. The remaining photos are of the view from the top of Wellington where the cable car took us.
Happy Christmas to all (maybe 5) of my readers. Hope you all have a great day and Sant is generous.
