Weather - Mostly Sunny with some clouds. Temp - 14 - 21C
Another sea day, so plenty of time to either do nothing or keep busy with activities aboard ship. This morning we awoke late for us (8am). Luckily we decided last night to forgo room service today and just shower & go straight to breakfast. I had a beautiful fresh fruit platter again. Also poached eggs on spinach. Still proud to say I have not had any toast or pastries. Luckily the eggs were in a bowl so easy to eat. Did I mention previously that the fruit on this ship is amazing? For instance, the fresh pineapple is the nicest I have eaten in years, deep yellow and so sweet & juicy. The paw paw and melon is also good.
After our leisurely breakfast we went for a walk around the ship and looked at the Christmas decorations set up in The Atrium. Very nice and sat night the made this wonderful display of about 50 gingerbread houses based around a train track with miniature trains. So we headed back to grab our cameras so we can take some photos. These little houses are made by the chefs on the ship with some very artistic use of ingredients, so all edible. Check out the cracker biscuits, smarties etc. Hopefully some will be included in this post when I can finally get internet access & publish it.
We are now sitting in The Skywalkers Lounge (Deck 17), fantastic views in all directions, I am writing this whilst Mike is reading his book. It looks very nice and sunny outside, but with the breeze, a little cool for extended sessions. Our balcony has a little more protection as its a few decks further down, however it's a little too cool to linger for more than a few minutes. Hopefully things will warm up as we head North.
Today we had a traditional British Pub Lunch in one of the restaurants. It was very nice & of course we had to have a Guinness to keep with tradition. After lunch we headed to the Princess Theatre to watch a movie (Hope Springs with Meryl Streep & Tommy-Lee Jones). Was very good.
During our walk from the cinema we heard a band playing in the Atrium so decided to sit and listen for a while and enjoy a glass of wine, however the waiter convinced us it was less expensive to buy a bottle and take the leftovers back to our cabin. Yes .... you guessed it ...... the bottle was empty when we left! I think it was one of those trick bottles with a false bottom :)
Next off to the stateroom to change for dinner and then we will go to the 7pm show in the theatre. Tonight is a Comedian Mike Harris. This guy was unexpectedly good. He had everyone laughing and targeted the 50 + age group.
We were in the Savoy Dining Room about 8pm for yet another nice meal. This time I had marinated scallops for entree & duck with Asian greens for main. No more wine as we wanted to catch the show by singer Dan Hodge & the Princess Orchestra in The Explorers Lounge. His show was on a larger scale this time & he was excellent as usual. We had a drink and then headed back to our room around 11pm.
Tomorrow we sail into Milford Sound early morning for scenic cruising, then head for Dunedin after lunch, arriving first thing Saturday morning.
